Rock music is a combination of
quick riffs, slides and fast chord complimented by the vibrant play of
the guitar. It also has fast playing lyrics, therefore it has a 2/4
-3/4 beat. Originally jazz, classic blues, western and country music
were incorporated in it. It later on began blending with folk and
electronic music like electric organ, keyboard and steel- guitar.
During its early stages artists like Fats Domuno, Jerry Lee Lewis Jains
Joplin and not to forget Carl Perkins helped it to reach great heights.
Elvis Presley is called the king of Rock and Roll because he scaled the
rock music charts in 1956 within no time. With about 150 charts records
to his credit he outperformed several artists. Some of his songs
remained popular even after his death. His first hit to rock the rock
music charts was 'Heartbreak Hotel' and almost overnight he turned into
a national sensation. His songs, 'That's alright Mamma', Jail-house
Rock' 'Burning Love' and 'Hound Dog' were indeed classics.

The
mid-90's saw the British band invading the American music industry. Of
them Beatles was the most successful. Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George
Harrison and Paul McCartney became a craze among Americans, this
success continued for eight long years until they separated due to
created differences in 1970.
Rolling Stones, 'I can't get no satisfaction' topped the rock music
charts in the year 1965. Although they did not have phenomenal success
on the rock music charts like Elvis and Beatles, it was their longevity
that made them a rock and roll icon. Rock music which began with two
guitars, a gifted singer, a set of drum and a bass during its infancy
stage began changing artistically. Orchestra instruments and
synthesizers were used by some bands to enliven the sound. Some others
began using amplifiers; this resulted in unnatural and loud sound. By
1990 Rock music has kind of reached the plateau with no exceptional
music being delivered. It soon saw many changes and came to be known by
different names like acid rock and later to heavy metal rock and
further evolved as grunge rock True rock music got buried underground.
Rock music gradually began to lose its hold over the masses with pop
music entering the scenario.
However, today artist like Ozzy Osborne, Sheryl Crow and Creedance are
creating a storm. Of course the lyrics are written to adapt with the
times. This makes the original rock artist stand out from the crowd and
appreciable. Rock music will keep changing no doubt, it will reflect on
the world issues to keep up with the time and progress and make its
presence felt.
